LORTEK – Graffiti en Belgrado

Hace 3 años nuestro colaborador Boycott tuvo la oportunidad de conocer en Belgrado, Serbia, a LORTEK o LORE (en ambas formas es el mismo), escritor de graffiti de la vieja escuela, y quien en aquel tiempo cuando se le realizó la entrevista tendría ya 30 años de experiencia en la escritura de su placa.

A diferencia de otros países del mundo, en Belgrado el graffiti pasó a ser un fenómeno de expresión sin censura o sin la necesidad de eliminarlo en cada momento o de perseguirlo; de acuerdo al testimonio de LORTEK es porque existen cosas más importantes en la vida cotidiana por las cuales preocuparse después de las grandes guerras sufridas en aquella región del mundo. Conoce un poco del graffiti del sudoeste de Europa a través de la conversación con un grande de Serbia.

¿Cómo describirías el cambio de la ciudad y/o urbanidad de Belgrado, de cuando eras un niño de 10 años a la actualidad? 
Bueno a cambiado mucho. Cuando tenia 10 años Belgrado era parte de un país comunista, Yugoslavia, y ahora es la república de Serbia. Después del comunismo, en los últimos 30 años hemos tenido un par de guerras, campañas de bombardeo en Belgrado por parte de la OTAN, meses largos de protestas, el asesinato del Primer Ministro, ley marcial para lidiar con cárteles criminales, y montones de cosas locas «más pequeñas» que influyeron en la atmósfera y el carácter de la ciudad. Por otro lado, ha habido mucha reconstrucción y urbanización de áreas que solían parecerse a las favelas, y también las áreas viejas están siendo «arregladas» para turistas… Sabes a qué me refiero.
_{How would you describe the urban changes of Belgrade, from an urban point of view, from the time you were 10 years old to today?
Well it changed a lot. When I was 10 yrs old Belgrade was a part of a communist country Yugoslavia and now I live in republic Serbia. After communism in last 30 years we had a few wars, NATO bombing campaigns on Belgrade, huge months long protests, Prime minister assassination, marshal law while dealing with criminal cartels and shit load of other “smaller” crazy stuff going on that influenced the atmosphere and the character of the city. On the other hand there has been a lot of  rebuilding and urbanisation of areas the used to look like favelas and also old areas are being “dressed up” for tourists if you know what I mean.} 

¿Cómo han influido en la sociedad de Belgrado los conflictos bélicos por los que han pasado a lo largo de su historia?
De muchas maneras diferentes, antes que nada porque estamos entre el Este y el Oeste (Oriente y Occidente), hay una polarización tan obvia en las opiniones de las personas cuando hablas con personas o lees las noticias. También hay mucho el “complejo de víctima” debido a la historia.
_{How have the conflicts in the Balkans throughout its history influenced the society of Belgrade?
Many different ways, first of all because we are between east and west there is  obvious polarisation in views of people that is so clear when you talk to people or read the headlines  . Also there is a lot of victim complex because of history.}

¿Cómo llegó el graffiti a Belgrado, o quién lo llevó? ¿Qué país fue la mayor influencia para el surgimiento del graffiti en Belgrado?
Bueno, no sé qué opinen los otros, pero lo vi esporádicamente en Belgrado a finales de los 80´s, unas cuatro o cinco piezas, algunos pasajes subterráneos, algo así. Lo hicieron algunos locales que trabajaban en el extranjero y que venían de vacaciones o algo por el estilo. Desde que comenzó la cultura del graffiti en Nueva York, siempre tuvo la mayor influencia en el graff en general, así que aquí era lo mismo, pero hoy en día, especialmente debido a la polarización que mencioné que algunas personas buscan el Zachem de Moscú o el FUi polaco, pero también TPK y UV de París y por supuesto SDK, MOAS, WUFC… y Berlín también 😀
_{How did graffiti arrive in Belgrade ? who brought it ? Which countries has had the most influence in the emergence of graffiti in Belgrade ?
Well I don’t know for others, but I saw it sporadically in Belgrade during late 80’s, 4, 5 pieces it some underpasses or something. It was done by some locals that worked abroad and came here for folidays or something. Since graffiti culture started in NYC it always had the biggest influence on graff in general so here was the same but nowadays especially because of polarization I mentioned some people look up after Moscow’s Zachem or Polish FUi, but also TPK and UV  from Paris and of course SDK, MOAS, WUFC… and Berlin too 😀}

¿Cuál consideras es la opinión de los ciudadanos de Belgrado con respecto a la escritura de graffiti y al bombing? 
La gente está tan harta del graffiti político o de aspecto hooligan que cualquier cosa colorida o bien hecha les gusta.
_{What do you consider is the opinion of the citizens of Belgrade in regards to graffiti and bombing?
People are so sick of political and hooligan graffiti that anything colorful or nicely done they are fond of.}

¿Por qué a diferencia de otros países en Belgrado no se persigue a los escritores de graffiti?
Tal como Os Gemeos dicen en un video hablando sobre Sao Paulo, la policía tiene que lidiar con mucho más crimen real, que simplemente no les importa algo tan trivial como pintar paredes, siempre y cuando no esté relacionado con políticos o los hooligans.
_{Contrary to other countries, why isn’t graffiti penalized in Belgrade?
Like Os Gemeos say in some video talking about Sao Paulo, Police has so much more real crime to deal with they just don’t care about something trivial as painting walls as long as it is not political or hooligan related.}  

¿Qué tan ilegal es entonces el graffiti bombing? 
Es tan ilegal que puedes pintar trenes y publicar fotos frescas en facebook y nadie ira a tocar a tu puerta, a la policía no le importa.
_{How illegal is graffiti bombing then ?
It is so Illegal that you can paint trains and post fresh photos on facebook and no one will knock on your door, police don’t care.} 

¿Cuándo comenzaste a realizar bombing y cuándo dejaste de hacerlo y por qué? (En caso de haberlo dejado)
Bueno, en el momento en que aprendí sobre graff comencé a hacerlo de una manera u otra. El año pasado me tomé un poco las cosas con calma, todavía pinto de vez en cuando, pero estoy más orientado en la guerra cultural que está sucediendo alrededor del mundo en este momento, especialmente en Europa.
_{When did you start bombing and when did you stop doing it, and why ? (in case you have stopped doing it)
Well the moment I learned about graff I started doing it in one way or another, last year I kinda took it easy, I still paint now and then but I’m more orientated on sorting myself out and culture war that is going on around the world at the moment especially in Europe.}

Cómo se vive el beef en Belgrado, dado que es posible pintar con cierta legalidad y me imagino cada vez existen menos espacios para pintar…
Esa mierda es un poco ridícula aquí ya que los beefs reales están, de nuevo, relacionados con los hooligans.
_{How is beef dealt with ? given that it is possible to bomb with certain legality and i imagine there is less available space to paint…
That shit is kinda ridiculous here since real beefs are, again, hooligan related.}  

¿Qué tan seguido participas en eventos de graffiti? ¿Cuáles son los que tienen alrededor y cuáles son los que prefieres?
Solía hacerlo mucho, especialmente en la región (Zagreb capital de Croacia, Sarajevo capital de Bosnia y Herzegovina, Split en Croacia) ya que Belgrado nunca tuvo muchos eventos de este tipo. Organicé unos pocos pero me detuve, hoy en día son principalmente los estudiantes de escuelas de arte los que intentan promocionarse como artistas callejeros o lo que sea y no quiero tener nada que ver con eso.
_{How often do you participate in graffiti events? Which ones take place in Belgrade and which ones do you prefer?
I used to do a lot of it , especially in the region (Zagreb, Sarajevo, Split…) since Belgrade never had much of it. Organized a few myself but I stopped, these days it’s mostly art school kids who try to promote themselves as street art or whatever and I don’t want to do anything with it.}

¿Existen marcas regionales de pintura para graffiti? Si es así cuáles son y qué opinas de ellas?
En mis tiempos sí, pero ya no existen. Había marcas locales de pintura, pero se extinguieron durante los 90’s. Ahora hay marcas conocidas que se utilizan en todo el mundo y pintura aficionada italiana que hace pasar por pintura local.
_{Are there regional spray paint brands, and if so which one are they and what do you think of them?
Back in the days but not anymore, there were local paint brand but they died off during 90’s. Now there are known brands that are used around the world and italian hobby paint in all kind of different “local brands”.}  

¿Cuáles son las marcas de pintura existentes en Belgrado?
Tanto Montanas (alemana y española) como esporádicamente todas las otras marcas de pintura «urbana» que son más baratas. También hubo Molotow en algún momento, como hace 10 años.
_{Which are the paint brands in Belgrade ?
Both Montanas and sporadically all different other cheaper “urban” paint brands.There was also Molotow at some point, 10 years ago.} 

¿Qué marca de pintura sueles usar?
La Montana Cans alemana.

¿A qué se deben tus diversos estilos de escritura?
Porque de lo contrario sería redundante y al final sería aburrido hacerlo… También, la diversidad es nuestra fuerza 🙂
_{We see your style is quite varied, why is that ?
Because otherwise it would be redundant and in the end boring to do it. . .  also, diversity is our strength 🙂} 

Entendemos que perteneces a varios crews de graffiti como EX VANDALS, pero la mayor parte del tiempo mencionas MOFOS y DOLPHINZ, cuéntanos la historia de estos dos crews.
DOLPHINZ es uno de los muchos crews internacionales de los que formo parte. Pero MOFOS debió ser sólo para gente local y así promover a más escritores serbios hacia el resto del mundo y dar un ejemplo de la escena local y de cómo se podría hacer si tienes la voluntad de hacerlo.
_{We understand you belong to different crews, but most of the time you tag MOFOS and DOLHPINZ. Tell us the history of these crews.
DOLPHINZ is one of many international crews I am part of… but MOFOS was supposed to be kinda locals only crew, to promote more Serbian writers to the rest of the world and to be an example to the rest of the local scene how it could be done if you have the will to do it.}  

¿Vives del graffiti o tienes otra actividad? 
Hasta el año pasado (2018) viví del graffiti por más de 10 años.
_{Do you live off graffiti or do you have another activity?
Until last year I lived of graffiti for more than 10 years.}

Si pudieras imaginar cuántos escritores de graffiti existen en Belgrado, cuál número mencionarías…
Alrededor de 100 pero no estoy siendo muy generoso… Podrían ser más si contamos a todos los que se llaman a sí mismos escritores de graffiti…
_{If you could imagine how many graffiti writers exist in Belgrade, what would that number be?Around 100 but I’m not being very generous … could be more if we count everyone that call themselves  graffiti writers…}

¿Qué caricaturas veías cuando eras niño y cuáles eran tus preferidas y por qué?
Cuando era un niño como todos los otros niños, veía clásicos de Disney, Hanna-Barbera, etc. Pero mi serie favorita era «Possible Possum» de Terrytoons, puedes encontrarla en línea y descubrir el por qué. Pero sigo viendo dibujos animados hasta el día de hoy, principalmente AdultSwim como Frisky Dingo, Metalocalypse, ATHF, VENTURE Bros, Squidbillies, etc.
_{What cartoons did you watch as a child, and which ones were your favorites and why?
When I was a child like all the other kids I watched Disney classics, Hanna-Barbera ones, etc  but my favorite series was “Possible Possum” by Terrytoons, you can find ‘em online and figure out why. But i still watch cartoons to this day, mostly AdultSwim ones like Frisky Dingo, Metalocalypse, ATHF, VENTURE Bros , Squidbillies etc.}  

¿Qué te gusta más de Belgrado?
Las partes de la ciudad que están desapareciendo, los ríos en los que se encuentra, la fortaleza de Kalemegdan (Construida por decreto de Justiniano el Grande, emperador romano de oriente entre los años 527 y 565).
_{What do you like most about Belgrade?
The parts of city that are disappearing atm, the rivers that it is on, the Kalemegdan Fortress.}
